Designed by Amber Lewis for Visual Comfort Signature, the Laken puts two opposite materials against each other. Polished nickel is bright, hard and reflective; black rattan is woven, matte and organic. Neither is unusual on its own — the pairing is what makes the lamp read as considered rather than standard.
A matte white shade sits above, diffusing rather than reflecting, which keeps the light soft on a work surface. The lamp stands 17.25 inches and extends 14 inches, so it reaches across a desk rather than standing straight up beside it. That reach is the practical argument: light lands where you're working while the lamp itself sits back out of the way.
An inline line switch on the cord keeps the control off the fixture body. It takes one E12 candelabra base B11 LED bulb up to 6.5W. At 3 lb it moves easily between a desk and a side table. ETL listed and dry rated for indoor use.
